Piggyback plant, youth on age

Tolmiea menziesii

Description:

Low-growing groundcover with lobed leaves that emerge off the stem so that it looks like a new plant is coming from an old one. The flowers are not showy but delicate pink.

Habitat:

moist roadside, temperate rain forest, edge of pine and sitka spruce woods, in the shade.

Notes:

This one definitely prefers shade and is prolific under alder trees on a hill along an old logging road.
