Eastern Small Milkweed Bug Nymph

Lygaeus kalmii

Description:

About 1 cm long bug nymph. Bright orange and black with long antenna. You can’t see the antennae because it went into a defensive pose on my hand.

Habitat:

In a mixed field near milkweed plants.

Notes:

I think because of the aposomatic coloration, it may be poisonous.
