Papilio glaucus
Large (around 12 cm) Papilionid butterfly. Pale yellow with black stripes on forewings. This species has dimorphic females (come in both yellow and black). Yellow female morphs are very similar to males--but females have a light (powdery) dusting of blue color near the blue/orange markings of the upperside of the hindwings. This specimen is a male.
Dirt road/sunlit clearing near dense, moist mixed hardwood forest. Lots of wildflowers and other insects abounded.
