Scarlet Elf Cup

Sarcoscypha sp.

Description:

Bright red cup fungi that was 3 cm diameter. The inner surface was red, smooth, and wrinkled. The outer surface was pink/peach and slightly hairy. It did not have a stem.

Habitat:

Growing on a dead branch in a wetland.

Notes:

This is either Sarcoscypha austriaca or Sarcoscypha dudleyi. The species ID can't be determined without microscopy.
