Blue-winged Teal

Spatula discors

Habitat:

Nest among grasses or herbaceous vegetation and forage in summer in shallow ponds or pond-marsh mixes. U.S. wintering grounds in fresh or brackish vegetated wetlands with lots of decaying organic matter.

Notes:

There were many of these far in the middle of ponds; I manages to take a few photos from my car of a few that seemed to be hiding near the side of the road. There is hunting in this area and on this day I could hear shoots in the distance. the ducks are quite skittish and keep far away.
