Carbon Balls

Description:

Carbon balls or cramp balls, Daldinia concentrica, I think

Habitat:

dead logs all over the Ravine forest in Prospect Park

Notes:

Didn't get a chance to cut these open to look for concentric circles but they are very hard. Quite common on dead logs in the Propsect Park forest.

take the time to cut one in half and photograph it - it's quite beautiful in cross-section......use a sharp knife.
