The modest common raven, spotted here on rocks on the shore of Lake Geneva. A large passerine bird with an iridescent black plumage and a strong curved bill.
Trees and rocks, plains and mountain. Very widely distributed. Seen here off a small cliff.
Considered to be highly intelligent, and the subject of many folkloric tales. In various cultures, believed to be a spiritual figure. Spotted bird was one of a pair. Told from carrion crows also seen nearby by its size (Common raven L 45-67 cm, carrion crow L 44-51 cm), and its call.
