Tokay Gecko

Gekko gecko (local name: tuko)

Description:

About 30 cm long

Habitat:

Our house

Notes:

We have a couple of these in our house. We love them... despite their loud calls, which can wake us up at night! We see them see them fairly regularly. This photo was taken when we first met one of them...

We're definitely lucky! Even at night, when admittedly we appreciate their noise a bit (!) less, at least they're busy keeping our walls more insect free...

Haha they are so funny! It even sounds like loudspeaker without any simplifying tubes.. Lucky (and at night maybe unlucky) you for having them so close!

It can be pretty loud, especially since the one that lives in our daughter's bedroom seems to do most of his 'barking' in a tube in one wall (where the aircon outlet will eventually come), so that the whole house becomes a 'loudspeaker' for his call! That should impress the females! :-)
You can here a good example on the wikipedia link:

People in the US raise these as pets, they have quite a bark. Easily my favorite lizard. So colorful.
