Mycoblastus affinis
Mycoblastus affinis is a crustose lichen that grows in conifer dominate forest in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Members of the Mycoblastus genus are commonly called blood lichens.
Spotted on a fir tree log next to Cle Elum river.
A phylogenetic analysis of the boreal lichen Mycoblastus sanguinarius, which is a sister lichen to Mycoblastus affinis reveals a lot of information about both.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3093615/
