Mexican Bean Beetles

Description:

Beetles that look like orange-brown ladybugs. They have been doing quite a bit of damage to my cucumber plants (see second image) and also to some squash plants. Fairly slow and they don't try to escape when you pick them up.

Habitat:

Vegetable garden.

Notes:

They look like a perfect match for the images on the internet for this species. It's interesting that no one lists cucumber plants as host plants.
