Prairie Falcon

Falco mexicanus

Description:

Prairie falcon or peregrine falcon? We ID'ed this bird as a prairie falcon, but a Project Noah member has suggested that it's actually a peregrine. The prairie is listed as uncommon at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, where these photos were taken, and the peregrine is listed as rare. Unfortunately we did't get a frontal view. Suggestions welcome.

I was recently showing this photo to a friend of mine who is the director of a raptor rehab center. She said that this is actually a peregrine falcon and not a prairie! Kinda thought that was cool and I would share that with you! It does kinda look like a juvenile peregrine to me, but I'm still a novice!
