Masked frog

Smilisca phaeota

Description:

A couple of days ago Yasser spotted a golden colored frog in Costa Rica. I realized I had a very similar looking frog in my backlog of images from Costa Rica: identical eye marking and banding on the legs. Gordon Dietzman suggested Smilisca phaeota as an ID. They display a variety of color variations; for instance the one pictured on the Costa Rican INBio site is green on the upper body parts: http://darnis.inbio.ac.cr/FMPro?-DB=UBIp...

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest. This one was hugging a water tap at the Corcovado Tent Lodge, Corcovado National Park.

Notes:

Yasser's spotting is at http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/639...

Thanks Yasser. This is just an example of the many ways Project Noah is working, so many thanks to you and your co-founders! I hope you can make it to Corcovado. Called by NG "the most biologically intense place on Earth"!

Daniele, it does look like the same species! Great memory after 4 years :) I'm really really really trying to get down to Corcovado, but it might be tough to pull off during this trip. I hope to get there one day though. It's been a dream of mine for a long time. Love your photos from all your adventures!
