Common Yellowthroat

Geothlypis trichas

Description:

The wichity wichity call of the Common Yellowthroat is usually the first indication of their presence. Bold black mask bordered by white on the forehead contrasts nicely with the bright yellow body and olive green back.

Habitat:

Usually found by every marsh or lake during breeding season, this male was hoping around a log at the edge of the Beaver Pond in Manning Park just south of Hwy 3. The witchity witchity call helped to locate it. The female hopped briefly up onto the log but not long enough to get in my photo! Their nest must be someplace very close to the log in the brush there. One of my favourite birds!
