Description:

Large moth in the late afternoon, about 2.5 inches long ... almost didn't see it because it was so nearly the same color as the sidewalk.

Definitely S. franckii in my eyes. Super find! I would love to see these. Sphinx moths are my favorite.

I'm going to double check my references, but I don't think it could be mistaken for anything else. Sphinx franckii is a very (!) infrequently recorded species!
