Northern White-crowned Shrike

Eurocephalus ruppelli

Description:

Dark brown (to black) and white bird from Shrike (Laniidae) family, about 20 cm long. Normally gregarious, hunting in small groups, but here seen alone.

Habitat:

This shrike's range is limited to Easter and Horn of Africa, including parts of land in South Sudan. Here seen in open semi-arid to arid acacia woodland, close to the road and not too far away from human settlements and agricultural fields.

Notes:

This spotting was a lifer for me, as it is a first recording on Project NOAH.
