Ironclad Beetle

Zopherus nodulosus haldemani

Description:

…a subspecies of ironclad beetle that is native to parts of Texas and Mexico. Adults and larvae of this species (and subspecies) are usually found on Pecan, Oak and Elm trees. Like other members of Zopherus it is assumed that the larvae are born in these trees and bore through them throughout their live. True to its common name the exoskeleton of Z.n.haldemani is remarkably hard and is very hard to puncture. This subspecies has two color morphs one being its common black and white coloration and the other being completely black.

Habitat:

Spotted this beetle on the ground under some plants in the wooded portion of wildlife habitat yard.
