Eastern Chimpanzee

Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii

Description:

Adult chimpanzees in the wild weigh between 40 and 65 kilograms (88 and 143 pounds). Males can measure up to 160 centimetres (63 inches) and females up to 130 centimetres (51 inches) in height. Although they are lighter than humans, they have a pull five to six times stronger.

Habitat:

rainforest

Notes:

I spotted chimpanzees at Kalinzu forest. There are a few places to observe chimps in Uganda. Some of them more popular and well known, others not so much. I went to 3 places to try and see them. I had success in the 2 lesser known places and not in the popular place. A guide and I tracked this family of chimpanzees for the forest for 10 hours. It was my birthday present to myself. It was rough going for most of it as we hacked through trailless jungle, but it was totally worth it.
