RED-LINED PANOPODA

Description:

The mature caterpillar is approximately 1.5 inches in length. It is bright green with prominent cream subdorsal stripes. It has many pale, cream-colored lines and dots. The head is blue-green with a cream-colored transverse line. The antennae are red. The prolegs are pale yellow with red spots. The hind prolegs are noticeably larger. The adult moth has a wingspan of 1.5 to 1.75 inches. The forewings and hindwings are variably colored tan to gray to orange-brown. Two pale yellow lines across the forewing and a pale yellow line across the hindwing are all edged with red. There is often a black blotch in the middle of the forewing. The head is red.
