Black-chinned Sparrow

Spizella atrogularis

Description:

Sparrow with brown and reddish wings. The body is an overall gray with black around the bill and on the chin. Bill is yellow color. Song is unique with a trailing end.

Habitat:

These are normally found in the southwestern and Mexico in chaparral, sagebrush. This one was spotted in the new growth area where there was a fire in Mount Diablo.

Notes:

Not much information is found on these sparrow species. Especially why is it out of it's range.
