Laughing Kookaburra

Description:

This was the moment a local adult Kookaburra "adopted" a rescued young (from another area). It is seen here feeding the youngster with a garden skink.

Habitat:

Common throughout Eastern Australia

Notes:

A stocky bird about 45 cm in length, with a large head, brown eyes, and a large bill. They have a cream-coloured body and head with a dark brown stripe through each eye and more faintly over the top of the head. The wings and back are brown with blue spots on the shoulders.

@alicelongmartin - We "test" first with the young bird in a cage for protection. Sometimes they get ignored, sometimes attacked, and sometimes this happens!

I never knew birds would be surogate Mothers.Quite a picture to catch.

That's great. I love the little ones when they start to learn how to "laugh" and they're making that funny wheezy sound.
