Dogbane Beetle

Chrysochus auratus

Description:

Dogbane Beetles are one of my favorite beetles! These beetles were found in large numbers on wildflowers (dogbane family) on the edge of a clearing. They can be identified by their shiny iridescent rainbow coloration and body shape.

Habitat:

Border between temperate forest and clearing next to a paved trail. Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.
