Northern Gannet

Morus bassanus

Description:

Large seabird, pure white with black wing tips and a yellowish head. Truly sea-faring birds, spending much of the time out at sea and coming to land to breed. Juveniles are darker in colour and get splotched with white as they grow older. Feed in a spectacular fashion by diving into the water in a torpedo-like manner.

Habitat:

North Atlantic ocean

Notes:

Saw many gannets, especially around northern UK, Ireland and the north part of the North Sea. I saw a few dive, and it was amazing! But it was rare that I did, and I was always working, so no camera - typical! These photos were snapped on the western coast of Scotland.
