We used to find a fair number of black widow spiders (like hiding under sinks in the back of cupboards) in Eugene, Oregon, but I've heard from someone who lived there before that Bend, Oregon was particularly 'blessed' with them.

I was bitten by a black widow .... it was very painful for a long time but not fatal (obviously)
