Esta es una abeja Antophorida. Desgraciadamente la taxonomía dentro de éste grupo es complicada ya que los géneros y las especies se parecen mucho entre sí (salvo alguno casos muy obvios). El género Amegilla al parecer no está representado en Centro y Norte America, y sólo existen unos pocos casos en Chile.
