A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Delias nigrina
An Australian native butterfly, also known as Common Jezabel. Wingspan up to 65 mm. Colour is white or greyish on the upperside, with blackish margins and apexes. On the underside they are gaudily patterned in red, yellow, black and white - the colours serving to advertise their unpalateable nature to would-be predators. The caterpillar of this species feeds gregariously on various species of mistletoe, several species of which are found in this area.
Spotted on an overgrown trail on margin of rainforest in the Brisbane Forest Park. Well-shaded area, very moist and cool compared to the more exposed areas of the park. Many different types of creepers and native trees nearby.
