Stag Beetle (male)

Lucanus Cervus

Description:

Adults appear during late May to the beginning of August being most active in the evenings. The larvae go through several developmental stages (instars), taking 4 to 6 years to become pupae. The natural reaction of the beetle to an approaching large object is to remain motionless making them a good photographic subject.

Habitat:

Europe

Notes:

About 11 cm or 4.3 inches. I saw it on my big Tree in my garden and took my chance to take some pictures. As said in the description it stood still and didn't move so it was really easy to take my pictures and it was a good model!
