Common Mother-of-Pearl

Protogoniomorpha parhassus aethiops

Description:

A fairly big butterfly (wingspan is 65–80 mm for males and 75–90 mm for females) was struggling to stay solid on my porch in the storm. It looks like he had his fun in his life. A bit old and weathered nowadays. The Common Mother-of-Pearl is a species of Nymphalidae butterfly found in forested areas of Africa.

Habitat:

Green valley next to a small river. Found it in the evening when it was trying to find a calm place without so much wind.

Only one other Mother-of-Pearl species in Southern Africa: Protogoniomorpha anacardii nebulosa, Clouded Mother-of-Pearl.
