Galaxea colony

Galaxea sp.

Description:

Stony coral with large polyps, and very characteristic-looking coralites (where the polyp sits in). This particular morph is unique to the Wakatobi, Indonesia. Here, at Sampela, the Galaxea corals take on a massive, somewhat encrusting formations, and strange "pillars" arise, like the one in the photo.

Habitat:

Tropical coastal waters

Thanks both! It was a huge colony, much bigger than I could have shown in one photo. It was amazing :)
