Pearly Everlasting

Anaphalis margaritacea

Description:

Perennial wildflower from a rhizome with narrow lance shaped leaves, blue green, small white flowers with yellow centers which do not seem to fully open, with many small flowers in a dense flat cluster.

Habitat:

Found in many places but these were found beside the mountain trail to Mt Cheam in the North Cascades Mountain range with some Red Paintbrush and Fireweed sharing their spot. Pic #3 & 4 show the habitat.

Notes:

I see these great wildflowers on many hikes! They may be named this cause they will dry easily and last for a long time, months! Pojar and Mackinnon states that the several of the First Nations used this flower in medicine. Ditidaht healers rubbed this plant on the hands to soften them. The Kwakwaka'wakw dried the plants and mixed them with Yellow-cedar pitch for a poultice. And the Nlaka'pamux used it as an influenza medicine. from Plants of Coastal British Columbia. Sounds like a good plant to get to know!!
