Loriculus beryllinus
Smallest member of the parrot family(Found in Sri Lanka ) , these little birds are Endemic to Sri Lanka both adult males and females have an orange crown with red rump, juveniles are more dull in color and only the faded crown is visible males have a distinct blue patch on the throat.Has a very sharp tweet like call which is heard when flying.Diet consists of sweet fruits , blossoms and , nectar, and once a tree is found they will be feasting for several days in the same tree.Strictly arboreal species , Can be found as groups of three or more . Unlike other parrots they can be seen hanging upside down on trees .
Found on many wet zone hill habitats up to 4000 feet , this three parrots were found on a Guvava tree .
Cases have been reported these little parrots attracted to the palm juice collecting pots ( toddy pots ) and found drunk .In local language known as Gira Maliththa .
