Small Freetail Bat found near Atherton Queensland. This is a hand-raised juvenile bat undergoing rehabilitation before release. I think it it either the Nothern Freetail (Chaerephon jobensis) or Beccari's Freetail (Mormopterus beccarii).

Atty.Dan - Good question. Yes, they sometimes bite, even ones that have been in captivity for a while. The are only small but their teeth are razor sharp and some bats can carry serious viruses. As bat carers we are vaccinated against rabies, and we always advice anyone against handling any type of bat unless vaccinated. Cheers, Steve A.
