Description:

This medium-sized ground squirrel may be up to 41 cm (15 in) in length, with about a third of that being tail. Grizzled fur above and tawny below. Whitish eye ring and reddish fur on nose.

Habitat:

Alpine and sub-alpine meadows and forest edges, where it lives in burrows and feeds in meadows.
