Redbreast Male

Papilio alcmenor

Habitat:

Feeding on wet ground, by the bank of a river. Warm and humid place with lots of vegetations.

Notes:

This butterfly has its left wing torn quite badly making my photos uncomfortable. As a result I had to do lots of crawling, kneeling, even turning supine to get a few presentable shots. This photo has its left and right wings just overlapped!

Thanks Daniele. This set of work was during one of those weekend trips to 'remote places' in the world.

You're welcome again :-) Thanks for all your latest contributions! There's another butterfly I need to check, and I guess the moths will keep us busy for a while :-)

Your welcome! By using Papilio it's not really me you're going with but the taxonomic authorities I referred to on your Red Helen spotting :-)
Princeps is currently not in use. It is what is called reserved, which means it could be used again should the genus Papilio become under revision (taxonomists love revisions).

Thanks Daniele for the correction, and ref. I missed out the 'c'. As regards 'Princeps' I refd. The Butterflies of Sikkim Himalaya . . . . . (1992) by Meena Haribal, where all the Genus under 'Black-bodied Swallowtails' are classified as 'Princeps' instead of Papilio! Of course, I'll definitely go with you.
