Boomslang

Dispholidus typus

Description:

The only photo I managed to capture of this elusive snake was this one, as it bolted across the road in front of us in Kruger National Park.

Habitat:

Native and restricted to sub-Saharan Africa.

Notes:

I believe this individual was a male, as males tend to be light green with black or blue scale edges, where adult females tend to be brown. Drop for drop the boomslang has the most potent venom in South Africa. However, they are reported to be timid snakes, and generally only biting people when handled or attempted to catch or kill the animal.
