Papilio rumiko
Mating butterflies with black and yellow on the top of their wings and yellow, black, red and gray on the underside of the wings. Flight: "All giant swallowtails have a distinctive flight pattern which generally looks as if they are "hopping" through the air."
They landed on a Wisteria bush then flew to bamboo after a bee bothered them. They later flew again to another bush due to a yellowjacket. According to Wikipedia: Range: is from "Central America, Mexico, and across southern United States, northeastern US, and southern Ontario; strays north rarely to Nova Scotia, Quebec, Manitoba, and North Dakota"

I can imagine. I'd have been ecstatic! I think my best finds living down there were a Queen and a Black Witch moth
I was so excited Karen! I've seen various butterflies fly right across the yard and not stop then THIS! It was a good day :)
Amazing butterflies. I lived in So Cal for the greater part of my life and was a butterfly fancier. I never once saw anything like these guys
