Description:

Here is the female in action. She locates with her antennae the scent of a fungus associated with a larvae that lives inside the tree.She penetrates the tree with a 75 mm ovipositor, secretes a chemical that breaks down the wood and lay eggs on the larvae so the babies will have food for sure. Nature is amazing or what!!!

Habitat:

Eastern Canada and United States west to South Dakota and Texas. Live in woodlands.
