Megarhyssa macrurus
Here is the female in action. She locates with her antennae the scent of a fungus associated with a larvae that lives inside the tree. She penetrates the tree with a 75 mm ovipositor, secretes a chemical that breaks down the wood and lay eggs on the larvae so the babies will have food for sure. Nature is amazing or what!!!
