Not sure in the south, in CR the most similar birds are Jabiru, and storks. We don´t have cranes----

It is very poisonous, but not aggressive, it is fast enough to catch a hummingbird in flight.
I have seen like 10 variations of colors in the same species.....

Esta muestra líneas a lo largo del cuerpo, lo que es inusual. Es mas común ver parches de colores.
