Thread-waisted Wasp

Description:

Deep maroon colour with bright yellow mouth parts. Thin- waisted.

Habitat:

Urban area. The sand is a pile placed there for use in construction. The mud must have been tracked in by the van that brought the sand. The wasp made directly for the mud and used its mouthparts also to collect a little. It was annoyed that my camera intruded and buzzed off.
