Habitat:

Woodland edges, near creeks, around buildings, and around damp, muddy spots

Notes:

The adults do not visit flowers, but feed on rotting fruit, tree sap, dung, and animal carcasses. Hackberry trees are the only host plants of the Hackberry Emperor.
