This little guy nearly met an untimely end as he was so well camouflaged on our aggregate driveway I nearly trod on him!

Added to NWF mission for its innovative defense. The toads parotoid glands produce a poisonous secretion that helps to defend the toad from predators. This substance, which is called bufotoxin, can cause death in small animals and allergic reactions in humans.

Nice photo! This appears to be a large American Toad (Anaxyrus americanus). The Southern Toad does not occur in Tennessee. Additionally, the Genus Bufo is now reserved for Old World species. Keep em coming :-)
