Wall Crab Spider

Selenops sp

Description:

Very similar to huntsman spiders in appearance, but usually smaller. This one had a body length of about 13mm, with an approximate leg span of around 4cm. Cryptic colouration in shades of grey, with some pale bands on the legs. They're also known as "Flatties" (picture #2).

Habitat:

This one lived in my room, between the doorframe and the wall. In San Pedro La Laguna, on the shore of Lake Atitlán.

Notes:

The members of this genus have the unique ability to "fly". They're able to steer when falling, allowing these spiders to fall/glide from one tree to another. There's an interesting video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7vG8Kw-...
