I was so taken by these flower/seed heads that I should have taken a shot of the trees for identification. The photos are from two trees, but they appeared to be the same all be it that the second had yellower leaves and the flower/seed head was pink, so I am not sure if they are different or the same type at a later stage. The trees were about the size of a large apple tree, not large like a elm etc.
These trees were in parkland so not sure if they are native to Turkey, have not noticed them anywhere else at the moment.
Thank you p.young713, as soon as I read your comment, I had to kick myself for forgetting about the Magnolia. We have never been to the park at the right time of year to see them flower, will have to make a note to do that, as their were several about and would make an impressive show.
