Yes. The leaves do look a bit like the side of a Brook Trout.

I'm assuming they mean the scales of a fish?

Victoria ... Some folks think that their leaves (you can see a couple in the background) have the mottled appearance of a fish - which is how they got the name of Trout Lily. I can always count on them showing up at the base of a particular tree near my home.
