Orange Bishop

Euplectes franciscanus

Description:

For such a brightly colored bird, this Orange Bishop was well screened by the tree it sat in. If it had been quiet, I am not sure that I would have noticed it! However, the Orange Bishop is described as a gregarious bird, so it was merrily chatting with the world. Spotted in captivity; See notes.

Habitat:

Native to Africa, south of the Sahara and north of the Equator in grassland. Introduced to the neotropics. Spotted in Florida, USA.

Notes:

Spotted at the Florida Museum of Natural History Butterfly Rainforest Exhibit http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/ http://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/nonnat...
