Banded Net-winged Beetle

Calopteron reticulatum

Description:

This species of net-winged beetle is about 1 cm (.5 in) long. It would be easy to mistake this insect for a colorful moth, but the wing coverings, being leathery and used to protect the actual wings, are the give away.

Habitat:

Forested areas. I found this individual in a small grassland on a forested edge.

Agree with that, I usually thought they are some kind of moths from afar at first when I saw them with their wings open.
