Giant mealybug

Monophlebulus sp.

Description:

Giant Coccid, or Mealybug. Mature adult stage. When this bug is younger, it is covered with a mass of cottony white fluff which falls off as it ages.

Habitat:

Dry scherlophyll forest - mostly on small eucalypts. Very abundant on the western side of Mt Coot-tha, along the flat part of the Jacksonia trail towards Gap Creek picnic area.
