Yellow-headed Blackbird

Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus

Description:

For a few weeks in the spring of 2011, Ridgefield photographers were treated to this lone bird, which decided to hang out on the cattails in an area far away from the area we normally see them. These cattails are only about 15 feet off the road. Here, the bird decided to show me his plumage and sounds off with the unmistakable screech of the Yellow-headed Blackbird.

Habitat:

These birds love cattails!
