Laughing Kookaburra

Dacelo novaeguineae

Description:

The Kookaburra is the largest Kingfisher. It's call sound like a mocking laugh.

Habitat:

They are native to the eucalyptus forests of eastern Australia and have been introduced to western Australia and New Zealand. This Kookaburra was seen in a coastal forest at a camp ground along the Great Ocean Road in southeastern Australia. I have also seen (and heard) them in inland forests as well. According to the Australian Zoo's web page, Kookaburras can be found in woodland and open forests with tree large enough to support their nests.
