Corythaeola cristata
The great blue turaco (Corythaeola cristata) is a turaco, a group of African near-passerines. It is not only the largest turaco but the largest species in the diverse Cuculiformes order (which includes the cuckoos). These birds were so cute with their punk hairdo's! There were a group of maybe 5 or 6 of them feeding on the berries of palm trees. Mostly there seemed to be 2 of them together, probably partners! Birdwatchers came especially to this Swamp area to see these birds, according to my guide.
These birds were in trees near the Bigodi Wetland.
Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Located outside Kibale Forest park in Magombe Swamp. The sanctuary was set up to preserve the exclusive environmental features along with the wetland. These birds are actively hunted as their meat and feathers are highly sought after commodities.

Gilma, you are most welcome... I took so many photos though that it will probably take the rest of this year to upload them! Africa was so full of life...

thanks you Saumya. These quite large birds were so cute with their punk hairdo. They were mostly in pairs, feasting on berries from the palm trees.

Unfortunately not Sukanya. I live in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu when I'm not travelling! But have actually been thinking to come to Kolkata for a week to take some photography classes.
India!!! Not Kolkata by any chance? Wonderful spottings Pamsai...I am totally overwhelmed.
hehehe Sukanya... I'm momentarily in Australia, making use of the good internet to put up my Ugandan spottings. I have so many photos from Africa this summer, want to get as many as possible up before I get back to India!
