Common brown

Heteronympha merope

Description:

Look who came to my front door today. Rather too cold to fly far, it posed on my lime citrus for a portrait. This male is early. Females do not emerge for a few weeks. This unusual emergence pattern may seem strange but it does ensure that only the strongest males (those that are still alive) get to reproduce - a natural way for females to guarantee meeting the strongest partner is to emerge after the weaker ones have died. =0)
